Two’s A Crowd Scores Two-length Victory In Sunday’s Second Leg of The Malouf Auto Group Starter Handicap Series
June 28, 2026
Two’s A Crowd made it two-for-two in the Malouf Auto Group Starter Handicap Series, taking advantage of stalking trip and powering to a two-length victory on Sunday in the featured $40,000 Starter Handicap at Monmouth Park.
Trained by Derek Ryan and ridden by Gulfstream Park regular Edwin Gonzalez, Two’s A Crowd followed his one-length victory in the first leg of the Malouf Auto Group Series on May 25, winning that one-mile off-the-turf race in the slop.
He easily handled six rivals in Sunday’s mile and a sixteenth turf feature, staying on the flanks of front-running Into It before taking over coming out of the final turn.
The winning time over a firm turf course was 1:42.83.
The Malouf Auto Group Series consists of four scheduled turf races at distances that increasingly get longer.
The third leg is scheduled for a mile and an eighth on the grass with the final leg at a mile and three-eighths on the turf.
As the odds-on favorite in the field of 3-year-olds and up, Two’s A Crowd returned $2.80 to win.
Eldest Son rallied for second with Into It finishing a tiring third.
The win for Two’s A Crowd was the 5-year-old’s sixth victory from 21 career starts. The New York-bred gelding is owned by Atlantic Six Racing, the same partnership that owns Book’em Danno, the Eclipse champion sprinter.
Book’em Danno is scheduled to race next in the July 17 Mr. Prospector Stakes at Monmouth Park in a homecoming for the star Jersey-bred.
Monmouth Park announced Sunday that is offering free admission on Friday, July 3, and Saturday, July 4, the latter as part of the celebration of America’s 250th anniversary.
Friday has been designated First Responders Day, honoring firefighters, police offices and other first responders.
