Skyloft Returns From Seven-Month Layoff To Win His Fourth Straight Race In Saturday Night’s Monmouth-At-Meadowlands Feature

October 04, 2025

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Skyloft showed no ill effects from a seven-month layoff, breaking sharply from the outside post and blazing to a half-length victory in Saturday night’s featured $42,000 allowance during the Monmouth-at-Meadowlands meet.

The victory was the fourth straight for the 3-year-old gelded son of Sky Mesa – but his first on the turf.

The winning time for the five furlongs over a firm turf course was a sharp :55.54.

Injured after his last start on March 5 at Tampa Bay Downs, according to trainer Mike Dini, Skyloft was able to transfer his sprinting speed on the dirt to the grass following his extended layoff.

The win gave both Dini and jockey Francisco Martinez two wins on the six-race program. They also teamed to win the second race with Yell For More.

Skyloft shot out of the gate in the six-horse field, shortened after four scratches, and cruised through fractions of :21.81 and :44.07 to the half.

Jungle Glow rallied for second, three-quarters of a length ahead of Java Buzz.

The Kentucky-bred Skyloft, owned by Ballybrit Stables, is 4-for-4 this year and 4-for-7 for his career. He paid $23.80 to win.

Racing resumes for the all-turf Monmouth-at-Meadowlands meet next Friday and Saturday before concluding on Friday, Oct. 17.

First race post time for the six-race cards is 7 p.m.
