CLASS AND CASH SETS NEW COURSE RECORD
Oceanport, NJ- Colts Neck Stables LLC’s Pool Winner made his 2017 debut a winning one, holding off the late challenge of Super Spender to take Friday’s $42,000 allowance optional claiming feature at Monmouth Park by a neck.
Pool Winner took the lead right from the gate and never looked back, stopping the timer at :55.11 for the five furlongs on the firm turf course and paid $3.60, $2.40, $2.10. “He’s a really nice horse,” said winning jockey Paco Lopez. “I didn’t think we were going that fast until I saw the final time. He really finished well and he had a good amount left in the stretch.”
Trained by Alan Goldberg, the 5-year-old gelding by Broken Vow out of the Dixieland Band mare Welcome Home improved his career record to 7-6-1 in 18 starts, good for earnings of over $300,000.
