Gone Local Reports Home First In Saturday Feature at Monmouth; Carryover of $40,672 into Sunday’s Early Pick 5

Oceanport, N.J. – Tim Mawhinney and Kathleen O’Connell’s Gone Local found room turning for home and opened up to a 4 ¼ length victory in the $40,000 allowance/optional claiming feature at Monmouth Park on Saturday.
Trained by O’Connell, Gone Local covered the flat mile over a fast main track in 1:38 2/5 and returned $20.60, $6.60 and $4.Lazarus Project completed the $46.40 exacta and paid $3.20 and $2.40.It was a head back to Social Stranger, who paid $4.40 to show.
“I was very confident in the horse,” said winning rider Antonio Gallardo.“I had a very good trip.I just tried to be patient with him and wait for a hole.Just past the quarter pole I saw a hole open up and the horse responded.”
A 3-year-old colt by Gone Astray from the Horse Chestnut mare Local Gossip, Gone Local is now 2-1-0 from seven starts.
As heavy rains moved into the Oceanport area late in the day the last race on the card was transferred to the main track.With that transfer, the final race in the Pick 5 sequence became an “all” and the Pick 5 carryover of $40,672 from the early Pick 5 on Saturday now carries to the early Pick 5 on Sunday, which begins in race 1.
