Dumb Money Scores In Sunday’s Featured Allowance Optional Claimer; Delgado Takes Lead In Trainer’s Race Heading Into Final Weekend

September 07, 2025

Dumb Money was sent to the front early by jockey Jorge Gonzalez and had enough left to repel all challenges as splashed home to three-quarters of a length victory in Sunday’s featured $68,750 allowance optional claimers for Jersey-breds at Monmouth Park.

Trained by Doug Nunn, the 3-year-old son of Sea Wizard won for the third time in 10 career starts. He has two wins and a second in the four races since Nunn took over his training from Gregg Sacco.

The winning time for the six furlongs over a sloppy and sealed track was 1:10.91.

Gonzalez sent Dumb Money to the lead in the 11-horse field after an opening quarter of :22.09 and then had enough to hold off the stretch challenge of Doin This. It was another half-length back to Charlie’s Express in third.

Dumb Money was bred by Colonial Farms and is owned by Pinnacle Racing team. He returned $20.40 to win.

Trainer Jorge Delgado picked up a win in the seventh race with X Y Prime to give him 19 for the meet, one more than Chad Brown with two racing days left in the meet.

Paco Lopez, who has already secured his 12th Monmouth Park riding title, and 11th in the past 13 years, had three winners on the nine-race card.

The meet concludes with live racing Saturday and Sunday.

Currently, there is a Jersey Shore Pick 6 carryover of $17,250. If the 20-cent jackpot wager goes unhit by a single bettor on Saturday there will be a mandatory payout on Sunday.

Admission and parking are free both days.
