Love Appeals Rallies To Win Sunday’s Incredible Revenge Stakes By One Length For the Second Straight Year
August 03, 2025

It’s easy to see why trainer Miguel Clement has been so eager – and equally frustrated – trying to find a race for Love Appeals.
The 5-year-old mare, making her first start for the son of the late Christophe Clement, rallied from off to pace to pass two horses late and then held off two more to win Sunday’s Incredible Revenge Stakes at Monmouth Park by one length for the second straight year.
With just one race since Dec. 14 (a fourth-place finish in the License Fee Stakes at Aqueduct on May 4), the Kentucky-bred daughter of Speightstown “has been sitting on go for a while,” Clement said.
The winning time for the 5½ furlongs over a firm turf course was 1:02.62.
“We tried to run her several times and we were unlucky,” said Clement. “Strangles broke out in New York several times so we were very unfortunate not to be able to run her. It was nothing against the filly. She has been training well for a while. She has been training very well. If you look at her works at Belmont she has been sitting on go for a while.”
With longshot Etrurian and Quiet Confidence setting the early fractions, jockey Samy Camacho had Love Appeals positioned in third. Those two took the scratch reduced six-horse field of fillies and mares to mid-stretch before Love Appeals moved to the middle of the track.
She passed both late and then held off the charges of runner-up Great Venezuela outside and Drifaros, who was three-quarters of a length further back after charging on the inside.
Love Appeals paid $8.60 to win.
“The only instructions Miguel Clement gave was try to break close to the pace,” said Camacho. “So when she broke well like she did I didn’t have to worry because she was very close to the pace, so the only thing I had to do was sit, be patient, and make the move at the right time. When they started to push the pace, I started asking her and she took off at the quarter pole.
“I really was in the right place with her. When I saw two horses in front, and I was sitting third and I’m in the clear I said ` think it’s over. I just hope nobody’s coming from behind.’ ”
Love Appeals won the Incredible Revenge Stakes by a length as well, though the 2024 version was at five furlongs.
Now with six wins from 16 career starts, Love Appeals improved to a 6-1-3 line from 13 lifetime grass starts. This marked her third stakes win and her third win in four starts at Monmouth Park.
“This is a very rewarding win for many reason, foremost being that (owner and breeder) Moyglare Stud Farm was one of my dad’s most prominent owners for many years,” said Clement. “They’re very loyal and great supporters and ambassadors for the sport. So it’s quite meaningful.”
Clement praised the ride that Camacho gave her.
“I don’t think she has to be that far off the pace. Today she was stalking,” Clement said. “Maybe the other day during her comeback race we gave her too much to do and she was too far back. Today she was in the race and she got a great ride from Samy Camacho. He kept her engaged and in the race and she showed that nice turn of foot that she has.
“She’s a good-looking filly, she’s game, she’s tough and she is easy to train.”
