Trainer Chelsea Rabadan Saddles First Career Winner As Perrotto captures Monday’s Featured Allowance Optional Claimer

September 07, 2026

Less than four weeks after she decided she wanted to try her hand at training instead of simply galloping horses in the mornings, Chelsea Sims Rabadan saddled her first career winner on Monday at Monmouth Park when Perrotto rallied from off the pace to score by three-quarters of a length in the featured $51,875 allowance optional claimer.

The 34-year-old has taken over training from her husband, Sergio Rabadan, who is now focusing on riding and being an owner.

“Absolutely ecstatic,” said Rabadan, who saddled her first career starter on Aug. 14. “Very happy to get my first win.

“I ride him in the mornings so I knew he had it in him. He did it today. He ran great.”

Owned by Prancing Horse Farm, where her husband is the manager while she trains and gallops, Perrotto had been 1-for-22 before scoring at odds of 9-2 in the one-mile turf feature for New Jersey breds. The race drew a field of 13.

Rabadan had been 0-for-13 before Sunday’s breakthrough, having started 12 horses previously at Monmouth and one at Penn National.

“I grew up in the world of racing,” she said. “I’ve been riding in the mornings but I decided I wanted to start training.”

Perrotto had previously been trained by her husband.

Charlie Marquez, who had three winners on the eight-race card, rode Perrotto.

“You hope (your first win) would happen sooner,” she said. “This is probably my favorite horse to get on in the mornings so I’m happy it’s him.

“I’m also happy we got it before the meet ends.”

Monmouth Park concludes its meet next weekend, with live racing Saturday and Sunday.

Both the race for leading trainer and jockey remain tight, with Jorge Delgado, seeking a second straight Monmouth Park training title, holding a 25 to 22 lead over Kelly Breen.

Delgado won with his sixth 2-year-old of the meet when Earth Song captured the sixth race on Monday.

Paco Lopez, seeking a record-tying 13th Monmouth Park riding title and eighth straight, enters the final weekend with a 53 to 45 advantage over Luis Rivera, Jr. Lopez is looking to match Joe Bravo’s mark of 13 Monmouth Park riding titles.

My Purple Haze and Amo Racing are currently tied for the lead among owners with nine winners, with Brad’s Equine Adventure and trainer-owner Mike Dini right behind with eight.

Admission and parking are free for the final two days of racing.
