East Rutherford, N.J. – Manhattan Racing Stable’s Harpoon angled out for the drive and drew off to a length a half score in the $25,000 Grey Ghost Starter Handicap on Saturday at the Meadowlands.  A longtime Halloween fixture, the Grey Ghost is restricted to either grey or roan colored horses.

With Samuel Camacho Jr. aboard for the ride, Harpoon stepped the mile over “good” turf in 1:39 flat and returned $6.40, $3.60 and $2.40 and topped a $33 exacta.  Hiram closed from last for the runner-up spot, paying $4.80 and $3.  It was another length and a quarter back to 2-1 favorite Lead Singer, who paid $2.60 to show.

A 4-year-old gelding by Tapit from the Star de Naskra mare Christmas Star, Harpoon is conditioned by Bruce Brown.

Saturday’s Meadowlands card marked the conclusion of Thoroughbred racing in New Jersey in 2015.  Thoroughbreds will return to action next spring at Monmouth Park in Oceanport.
