Weekend Express Rolls To Victory In Saturday Feature

With a full head of steam, Weekend Express stormed to the lead at the top of the straight and kicked clear to a 2 ¾-length victory in the $40,000 allowance feature at Monmouth Park on Saturday afternoon.

            Trained by Tim Hills, Weekend Express covered the mile and a sixteenth over firm turf in 1:41 1/5 and paid $8.60, $5 and $3.40.  Ginger Goose completed the $93.80 exacta and paid $13.40 and $5.40.  It was a nose back to Here’s to Mike, who paid $2.60 to show.

            Weekend Express marked the fourth winner on the card for apprentice rider Vicente Gudiel, who earlier in the day piloted Danalin ($11) to win the third, Lay It Down ($8) in the seventh and Brandy’s Girl ($4.40) in the eighth.

            In the colors of Sea Gull Capital, Weekend Express, a 3-year-old gelding by Any Given Saturday from the graded stakes winning Bernstein mare Toll Taker, sports a record of 3-2-0 from 11 starts.
