Oceanport, NJ - Jagger, Inc.’s Oak Bluffs sat behind the early speed before taking the lead in the stretch and held off a late challenge from Ancil to take Saturday’s $60,000 My Frenchman Stakes at Monmouth Park.

Oak Bluffs sat the perfect trip along the rail behind the early pacesetter Dreamsgonewild before taking the lead midway through the stretch and answered the challenge by Ancil to score the victory by a head.

Trained by Jamie Ness, Oak Bluffs coved the five and a half furlongs on the “firm” turf course in 1:02 and paid $8.20, $4.40, $2.60. Ancil completed the $78.40 exacta and paid $8 and $4.20. It was another length and a quarter back to Dreamsgonewild, who paid $2.40 to show.

“The plan was to break well and get into a good position,” said winning jockey Gabriel Saez. “We were in a good spot in third or fourth and then found a hole around the turn. He had just enough to get to the wire first.”

The 5-year-old gelding by Defrere out of the Disco Rico mare Disco Shaker makes it four in a row with each win coming at Monmouth Park. He now spots a lifetime record 9-3-1 in his 19 career starts.

Live racing continues at Monmouth Park on Sunday, August 9 – gates open 11:30 a.m., first post 12:50 p.m.
