Monmouth Park’s Bluegrass Mini Golf Course will play host
to the U.S. Miniature Golf Tour Tournament, sponsored by Drazin and Warshaw, this
Friday and Saturday, a first-ever event for the newly opened course and for the
State of New Jersey.
With a total purse of $12,000 on the line, mini golfers
from across the globe will converge on Oceanport,
N.J. as the prelude contest to the U.S. Mini
Golf Masters, played in Myrtle Beach,
S.C. this October.
“It’s quite an honor to host this prestigious event,”
said John Forbes, president of the New Jersey Thoroughbred Horsemen’s
Association, who oversaw the development of Bluegrass Mini Golf. “It’s a testament to the quality of the
facility we built and an event that will bring even more attention to Monmouth Park
and the Garden State.”
Among those set to compete include Olivia Prokopova (U.S.
Masters Champion the past two years), Dr. Brad Lebo (Champion of 2008), Matt
McCaslin (U.S. Open winner in 2004, 2005 and 2008), Jay Klapper (Champion of
2011) and Randy Orr (1999 Champion).
Anyone is welcome to play in the U.S. Pro Golf Mini
Tournament and may register at www.prominigolf.com
or at the course until Thursday, Aug. 14, at 9 p.m. The cost for the open division is $125. In addition, there are divisions for Seniors,
Women, Amateur, Team and Junior players.
Spectators are welcome to watch all the action, which
begins promptly at 8 a.m. Friday, when six of a total 10 rounds will be
played. On Saturday, also at 8 a.m., the
final four rounds of competition will determine the winner. An awards dinner, open to the public, will
follow at 6 p.m. Saturday in the William Hill Room (1st floor of the
Grandstand). Tickets are $25.
Bluegrass Mini Golf, which opened in 2012, is located at
the north end of Monmouth Park Racetrack.
With two 18-hole horse-themed courses to choose from, the facility is
open seven days a week, weather permitting, from April until November.
