glance at Friday’s 2nd race at the Meadowlands shows 2-year-old
fillies running a mile on turf. A deeper
look shows an absolute standout in the pedigree department belonging to Patsy
Boyne, an Irish-bred filly who makes her career debut for the $28,000 purse.
As if it
weren’t enough that Patsy Boyne is by Galileo, winner of the English and Irish
Derbies and one of the world’s leading sires, her mother is Kasora (Ire), who
produced two-time Eclipse Award winner High Chaparral, winner of 10 of 13
starts, including back-to-back Breeders’ Cup Turf Classics and earner of more
than $5 million.
Now add in
the trainer, H. Graham Motion, who earlier this year sent Animal Kingdom out
for a dominating score in the world’s richest race, the $10 million Dubai World
will head to the post in the colors of Merriebelle Stable with jockey Matthew
Rispoli in the irons. The duo will break
from post two in a field that has drawn 13 entrants.
competition appears to be from Gem City Gal, who will be making her fifth
career start for trainer Jason Servis, and Charlie Renee, who ran third in her
turf debut last out at Delaware.
Meadowlands card gets underway at 2:15 p.m., with gates opening at 11:30 a.m.
