Owners Richard Malouf and Eddie Broome will send out their 4-year-old filly Raro in Monmouth Park’s Sunday feature, a $40,000 allowance/optional claiming event.  Since paying $30,000 for the daughter of War Chant out of a claiming race at Gulfstream this February the new connections have enjoyed a solid return on their investment, visiting the Monmouth Park winner’s circle on two occasions.

“She’s a real nice filly to be around,” said Broome, who conditions Raro.  “She’s very easy around the barn.”

With a nice versatile running style, Raro enters Sunday’s race off a win here on Aug. 10, where she led almost every step of the mile on turf.  In her three prior Monmouth starts this year she was a stalker, pacesetter and closer, all adding up to a 2013 record in Oceanport of 2-1-1 from four starts.

“She’s a very consistent filly,” Broome said.  “She tries every time and has run some very nice races for us here this summer.”

With leading rider Paco Lopez back in the irons, Raro will break from post seven as she faces some strong rivals in flat mile on turf, among them last out winner Malibu Red and 3-1 morning line favorite Will to Shine.
