O. Alberto Acosta’s Angel’s South set slow early fractions while in company with Charmingmegan, before putting that rival away at the top of the stretch and drawing off to capture the $44,000 allowance/optional claiming feature at Monmouth Park on Friday by 2 ½ lengths.

Trained by Andrew Mitchell, Angel’s South went the mile and a sixteenth in 1:45 4/5 and paid $4.60 and $2.40.  Off My Cloud completed the $9.20 exacta and paid $2.40.  Charmingmegan checked in third with Parranda, who was off poorly, finishing fourth and last in the reduced field that was transferred from the turf to the main track.

“I was able to set a slow pace and get her to relax,” said winning rider Frank Reyes.  “When I asked her turning for home she really responded.”

A 5-year-old mare by Tale of the Cat from the Holy Bull mare Rahab, Angel’s South has won five of her 12 lifetime starts.

Live racing continues at Monmouth on Saturday, June 15 – gates open 11:30 a.m., first post 12:50 p.m.
