George and Lori Hall’s Smoldering Beauty took command out of the gate and never looked back, reporting home a 5 ¾ length winner in the $44,000 allowance/optional claiming feature at Monmouth Park on Sunday.

Trained by Kelly John Breen, Smoldering Beauty set fast fractions of :21 2/5 for the first quarter of a mile and :43 4/5 for the half before cruising home in 1:09 4/5 for the six furlongs over a sloppy main track.  The winner paid $4.20, $2.60 and $2.10 as the favorite in the field of five 4-year-old fillies.  Heir Storm completed the $14 exacta and paid $2.80 and $2.40.  It was another length and a quarter back to More Than Love, who paid $2.80 to show.

“All I did was put her on the lead and not fall off,” said winning jockey Elvis Trujillo.  “She’s a very nice, fast filly and she certainly showed that today.”

Sunday’s win was the third in seven starts for Smoldering Beauty, a daughter of Smoke Glacken from the Gilded Time mare Eternal Grace.

Live racing resumes at Monmouth Park on Saturday, May 25.  Gates open 11:30 a.m., first post 12:50 p.m.
