The Big M kicks off an
eight-day all-turf Thoroughbred meet this Friday and while the program will
list 14 runners, 10 will get a chance to take home the top prize in the fifth
race feature, a $30,000 allowance/optional claiming contest.
Among those entered in the body of the field is Dear
John, who looks to be in top form for trainer Gregg Sacco.
“He came back with a quarter-crack after his race two
back (July 7 at Monmouth
Park),” said Sacco. “We gave it time to heal and his return race
was exactly what we expected from him.”
That return race was a nearly three-length score over the
Monmouth turf on Aug. 12, when sent off the 7-5 favorite.
“He’s all turf,” Sacco added. “He’s a big, beautiful horse with a great
turf pedigree. I expect he’ll run another
big one on Friday.”
In the Friday feature, Dear John will break from post
eight with jockey Jose Ferrer aboard for the first time.
