Oceanport, NJ – In a finish eerily similar to SSC1, Sal Verderame swept by the leaders to take first place over Robert Staudt in Simulcast Series Challenge #3 on Saturday, March 24. The same two contestants finished one-two in the January contest. Strong payouts at Tampa, Gulfstream and Aqueduct saw the bankrolls on the leaderboard swell, but it was Verderame’s wager in the final at Gulfstream that brought him home first with a final bankroll of $915.50, the highest of the three Simulcast Series Challenges. Staudt, despite an all-out wager in the final contest race had to settle for second with $776.15. Joe Perry, 8th in the January SSC, finished in show position with $688.
Contest wagering was permitted on Aqueduct, Gulfstream Park and Tampa Bay Downs. Players began the day with a $100 bankroll and were required to play a minimum of ten races at a minimum of $10 per race, win/place/show.
Top ten received prize money with Verderame securing the lion’s share of $12,450 for first place. The contest attracted 249 entries with 18 new players taking on the veterans.
The top fifteen players will join 30 others as they advance to the Simulcast Series Challenge Invitational on April 28 where they will compete for two spots to the DRF/NTRA National Handicapping Championship in Las Vegas.
*Denotes Non-NHC Tour members. Will compete for prize money only in SSC Invitational.
