George and Lori Hall’s Sleepless Dixie tracked pacesetter Our Year throughout before collaring that rival in deep stretch en route to a 1 3/4-length score in the Friday feature at Monmouth Park.
Trained by Kelly Breen and ridden by Pedro Cotto Jr., Sleepless Dixie covered the one mile and 70 yards over a muddy main track in 1:43 1/5 and returned $16.60, $4.80 and $5.80 as the 7-1 fourth choice in the field of five fillies and mares. Pacesetter Our Year held for second completing a $58.40 exacta and returning $3.80 and $3.20. It was another two lengths back to Maddie’s Odyssey who rallied from well back to be third.
Friday’s win was the second of the year for Sleepless Dixie, a 3-year-old filly by 2000 Haskell winner Dixie Union out of the Cherokee Run mare Dream About. The victory pushed Sleepless Dixie’s lifetime earnings over the $150,000 mark.
Live racing continues at the Meadowlands at Monmouth meeting on Saturday with a first post of 12:15 p.m. Gates open at 11:30 am.
