Oceanport, N.J. – Isabelle De Tomaso’s Irish Strait took over at the top of the straight and never looked back, cruising to an impressive 2 ¾ length score in the $41,000 allowance/optional claiming feature at Monmouth Park on Sunday afternoon.

With J. D. Acosta doing the piloting, Irish Strait went the mile and a sixteenth over firm turf in 1:41.32 and paid $11, $4.60 and $4 in the field of seven colts and geldings.  Post-time favorite Boss Man rallied to complete the $31.40 exacta and paid $3 and $3.  It was nearly another length back to Padre Graz, who paid $8.40 to show.

A New Jersey-bred 4-year-old gelding by English Channel from the Polish Numbers mare Irish Sovereign, Irish Strait is conditioned by H. Graham Motion. The winner sports a lifetime record of 3-0-3 from 11 starts.

Live racing continues at Monmouth Park on Saturday, Sept. 17 – gates open 11:30 a.m., first post 12:50 p.m.  Monmouth will host live cards on Saturdays and Sundays through Sept. 25, after which Thoroughbred racing in New Jersey moves north to the Meadowlands for 14 all-turf programs commencing on Wednesday, Sept. 28.
