Race Summary

Highweighted at 124 pounds, Menifee pushed past his rivals late to win the Haskell for jockey Pat Day, his first ever Haskell win. Trained by Elliott Walden, earlier in the year Menifee was second in both the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness. His Haskell win came at the expense of Cat Thief, who would go on to win that year’s Breeders’ Cup Classic, and Forestry, who set the pace for the race.
Owned by Arthur Hancock III and James Stone, Menifee covered the mile and an eighth in 1:48 flat over a track rated good after morning rains soaked the Jersey Shore area. The winner returned $5 for his efforts and combined for a $13.40 exacta.
