Race Summary

In a race that featured Kentucky Derby winner Spend a Buck and Belmont Stakes winner Crème Fraiche, Skip Trial was the surprise winner at odds of 35-1. The Sonny Hine-trainee stormed to the lead in the stretch, before drawing off to convincing 3 ¾ length victory under 116 pounds and jockey Jean-Luc Samyn. Spend a Buck, the 3-5 favorite, finished second, a length ahead of Crème Fraiche.
Skip Trial, a son of Bailjumper, covered the mile and an eighth in 1:48 3/5 and paid $73. The race would be the first of three Haskell wins for Sonny Hine who later won the race with Technology, and Skip Trial’s son, Skip Away.
