Deputed Testamony

Race Summary

The 1983 running of the Haskell drew a field of 10, and at the finish the Bill Boniface-trained entry of Deputed Testamony and Parfaitement bracketed 55-1 shot Bet Big. Deputed Testamony, ridden by Monmouth’s own Herb McCauley, scored by a neck over Bet Big, who had two lengths on Parfaitement. The entry paid $9.60 as second choice and topped an exacta worth $333.40. Deputed Testamony had won the Preakness Stakes in May. The even-money favorite in the race was Slew O’Gold, who could do no better than sixth when he ran out of room along the rail. Slew O’Gold went on to be champion 3-year-old colt of 1983, champion older horse of 1984 and was inducted into Racing’s Hall of Fame in 1992.
