Al Hattab

Race Summary

The familiar colors of Rachel Carpenter’s Pelican Stable flew proudly on Aug. 2, 1969, as Warren A. (Jimmy) Croll, who was in the midst of a Hall of Fame career, saddled his first winner of the Monmouth Invitational in Al Hattab. The gray son of The Axe II justified his 7-10 backing as he rolled to a two-length score over Dot Ed’s Bluesky to pay $3.40. Al Hattab, a successful racehorse, went on to become a successful stallion. He sired Sharon Brown, the dam of Croll’s Horse of the Year 1994 Holy Bull, and before that sired Hat Tab Girl, dam of Black Tie Affair, Horse of the Year 1991.
