Oaks (G1) winner Untapable, who has taken her last four by open lengths and
would be making her first start against the boys. Owned by Ron Winchell and trained by Steven
Asmussen, who sent out the filly Rachel Alexandra to win the 2009 Haskell,
Untapable would enter Monmouth Park’s top race off a dominating 9 ¼ length win
in the Grade 1 Mother Goose on June 28.
Bob Baffert is looking to add to his already record six Haskell wins, this year
with the colt Bayern. A winner of three
of six starts, Bayern was last seen drawing away from his rivals in the Woody
Stephens (G2) at Belmont on June 7, winning by an impressive 7 ½ lengths.
setting their sights on this year’s Haskell is Wildcat Red, winner of the
Fountain of Youth (G2) and runner-up in this year’s Florida Derby (G1). In his most recent start, the Jose Garoffalo-trainee
was a better than 10-length winner of the Quality Road Stakes at Gulfstream Park.
Inclusion, third in the Wood Memorial (G1), Preakness Stakes (G1) and Woody
Stephens is also considering the Haskell, as is Medal Count, most recently
third in the Belmont Stakes and winner of this year’s Transylvania Stakes (G3) at

The William Hill Haskell will be televised live on NBC

getting an automatic berth to the $5 million Breeders’ Cup Classic at Santa
Anita on Nov. 1.
