Oceanport, N.J. – This year’s Breeders’ Cup is set for Friday, Oct. 30 and Saturday, Oct. 31 and Monmouth Park, Hillsborough and Woodbridge OTWs will simulcast all the championship races from Keeneland in Lexington, Ky.

Leading the list of runners who made it to this year’s Breeders’ Cup via Monmouth Park is American Pharoah, who wowed a record crowd of 60,000 plus in winning the Grade 1 William Hill Haskell Invitational this summer at the shore racetrack.  The Triple Crown winner has been installed the 6-5 favorite in the $5 million Breeders’ Cup Classic for owner Zayat Stables and trainer Bob Baffert.

Monmouth Park’s other Grade 1 race, the United Nations Stakes, will see a two-time winner of that event look to capture the $3 million Breeders’ Cup Turf, when Big Blue Kitten and jockey ‘Jersey’ Joe Bravo break from the gate on Saturday afternoon.  Big Blue Kitten, who won the U.N. in 2013 and 2015, goes for trainer Chad Brown in the mile and half turf event and is second choice at 8-1.

In addition to American Pharoah and Big Blue Kitten, New Jersey will see representation from trainer Kelly John Breen, himself a New Jersey native, who is set to saddle three runners this year. Trainer Jorge Navarro, top conditioner at Monmouth the past two seasons, will send out the favorite in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint with Private Zone, who stabled and trained in Oceanport all summer long.

The Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile will see three runners who made multiple starts at Monmouth this summer, with trainer Marcus Vitali sending out Iselin winner Valid to take on Monmouth Cup and Salvator Mile winner Bradester as well as Majestic Light Stakes victor Red Vine.

Looking to post an upset in the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint is Joe Franklin, who was a $50,000 claim earlier this year for trainer David Jacobson and Final Turn Racing Stables, LLC.

“Shortly after the claim, David (trainer Jacobson) decided to test the horse on the turf and we were pleasantly surprised with back-to-back turf wins at Monmouth and Belmont,” said James Costabile, managing partner of Final Turn Racing Stables.  “He is a 3-year-old with a great deal of potential and we look forward to the opportunity to represent New Jersey racing and participate in the Breeders’ Cup.”

Other Monmouth runners in this year’s Cup races include graded stakes winner Got Lucky, who took this year’s Molly Pitcher, and Photo Call, who won the Grade 3 Violet Stakes in August.
