The babies take center stage this Sunday at Monmouth Park as the racetrack plays host to the top 2-year-old races of the season, with the $100,000 Sapling Stakes for boys and $75,000 Sorority Stakes for girls leading the racing action.

It’s ladies first with a filed of seven misses slated to start in the six furlong Sorority, which goes as the eighth race on the 10-race program.  Looking to post the upset in the 61st edition of the Sorority is Crystal Rosario, who brake her maiden by an easy 8 ¼ lengths here on Aug. 21 and was claimed from that debut for $20,000.

“This race came up and we figured we’d take a shot,” said trainer Tony Wilson.  “She won so easy first time out and did everything coming out of the one hole that day, which is hard to do first time out.  She came out of the race just fine and has been doing great since we got her.  I think we’ll be right up there with the early pace and hopefully get lucky.”

A January foal by Put It Back from the Halo’s Image mare Crystal Image, Crystal Rosario sports a bullet work for her new connections on Sept. 2, going :37 for three furlongs.

Samuel Camacho Jr., who was aboard for her maiden score, retains the mount on Crystal Rosario, who will break from post four.

Two races later the boys get their shot in the Sapling, which goes at a mile over the main track.  Among the six entered in the 81st Sapling is Sunny Ridge, who broke his maiden here on June 21 before taking on graded stakes company at Saratoga in the Sanford (G3) in his most recent; Full Salute, runner-up in the Tyro on turf last out; and, Pinnacle Peak, who won the Prairie Meadows Juvenile Mile by an impressive 10 lengths on Aug. 7.

Monmouth’s Sunday card gets underway at 12:50 p.m., with gates opening at 11:30 a.m.
