Trainer Eddie Plesa Jr. will run both Yes I’m Lucky and Run
for Logistics in Sunday’s $60,000 Tyro Stakes for 2-year-olds. Both colts are
undefeated in their three combined starts, but both will try the turf for the
first time as they sprint five furlongs in the Tyro.
A colt by
Yes It’s True out of Whenthedoveflies, Yes I’m Lucky was purchased at the OBS
select 2-year-old sale in March 2013 for $105,000 by Trilogy Stable and Laurie
Plesa. Since then he is two-for-two, including a 2-year-old stakes win last out
in the Frank Gomez Memorial Stakes at Calder on June 22, where he went
gate-to-wire and bested the field by an impressive four lengths. Although both
of his wins were on dirt, Plesa believes that his success should continue on
winning a stakes race he doesn’t have a lot of options,” Plesa said of Yes I’m
Lucky. “His mother won a lot of races on the turf so we’re hoping that
transfers over for him.”
Since his last outing, Yes I’m Lucky has
posted two workouts, breezing four furlongs in :50 flat on July 16, and was
seventh best of 34 on July 24, when he breezed four furlongs in :48 4/5.
Logistics is set to make his second career start in the Tyro. In his only
outing, Run for Logistics stepped five furlongs in :58 flat after leading the
entire way, and opened up 5 ½ lengths on the field to win a maiden special
weight event over Monmouth’s main track (July 7). Since that effort the
2-year-old son of Bernstein has worked once, breezing four furlongs in :51 4/5
on July 21.
“As for Run
for Logistics he’s by a sire who throws a lot of turf horses,” Plesa said. “He
needs to run. He’s doing good so we’ll find out how good he is on the turf.”
Paco Lopez and Gabriel Saez will ride the two Plesa entries as Lopez boards Yes
I’m Lucky who drew the inside post, and Saez gets the mount on Run for
Logistics who will break from the sixth post position.
horses are coming into the race great,” said Plesa. “We’re anxious to try them
on the turf and see how they do.”
Stakes will go as race 4 on the 12-race card Sunday at Monmouth Park.
