Monmouth Prepares For A Busy Fourth Of July Weekend

Monmouth Park is preparing for a busy Independence Day weekend of racing in Oceanport. The four-day card, which begins on Thursday, is loaded with six stakes races and a series of promotions.

            Monmouth will be open for the Fourth of July on Thursday. Family Fun Day will be in full swing with live music by Bullseye, who will perform “On the Green.” There will also be bounce houses, face painting, pony rides and more. Thursday will also begin the jockey autograph and racing memorabilia sale, which will continue through Sunday. The Grade 3 $100,000 Jersey Shore Stakes is set for six furlongs over the main track and will be Thursday’s feature race.

            Friday and Saturday will feature three stakes events, highlighted by the Grade 1 $500,000 United Nations Stakes, a Breeders’ Cup “Win and You’re In” Challenge Race. Monmouth Park will be also be hosting a t-shirt giveaway that day, where patrons will receive a free Monmouth Park shirt with the price of admission to the park.

            The weekend festivities finish up on Sunday with the $100,000 Long Branch Stakes, a major prep for the Grade 1 William Hill Haskell Invitational on July 28, and the $75,000 Mr. Prospector Stakes. In addition Monmouth will host the $200 Monmouth/Woodbine Handicapping Contest that day, in which the top two finishers will earn an all expense-paid trip to Las Vegas as well as a seat at the National Handicapping Championship. Sunday will also include Family Fun Day, with music by Cats On A Smooth Surface.

            Gates open at 11:30 a.m. with post time at 12:50 for all four days.
