He’s Baaaack!
One of Monmouth’s most popular horses over the years, Get Serious, has always been a seriously nice horse and the 8-year-old gelding is giving every indication that he’s still got the guts, grit and goods to be at the top of his game.
On the Fourth of July, he was an impressive winner of the Grade 3 $100,000 Red Bank Stakes. “He came out of the race in fantastic shape,” said Pat McBurney, half of the training tandem of John Forbes and himself. “The Oceanport is the next logical step. It looks like he’s back to his form of two years ago.”
McBurney said that Get Serious is now fully recovered from an infection in his right front leg that rendered him compromised and unhappy throughout his 2011 campaign.
The gelding has now won the Red Bank three times and will be trying for his third win in the Oceanport, having taken the 2009 and 2010 editions of the race. The Oceanport is one of the six supporting stakes on the Haskell Invitational Day card.
