Though he has yet to set foot at Monmouth Park, George Kerr’s Good Morning Diva is on the road to the Grade 1 Haskell Invitational that will be renewed on July 29.
The 3-year-old colt started four times in Florida for trainer David Braddy, winning a maiden race at Gulfstream and the Calder Race Course Derby. But the owner wanted Good Morning Diva to run in the north, so he was sent to Tim Hills.
The Kentucky-bred is entered in Saturday’s $200,000 Peter Pan Stakes (G2) at Belmont, and after that race will be shipped to the Hills barn at Monmouth.
“The owner is thinking Haskell for this horse,” Hills said. “He’s by Lion Heart, a Haskell winner (2004), and it looks like he’s developing nicely.
“If he comes out of the Peter Pan in good order, he’ll go next in the first Haskell prep here, the Pegasus Stakes (Grade 3 on June 17).”
The horse was shipped north just last week, shortly after turning in a sharp drill (six furlongs in 1:13 1/5) at Calder.
“That’s a terrific work over the Calder track,” Hills said. “They usually work in 1:15 or 1:16.”
