Brandy’s Girl returns to the Monmouth Park turf as she takes on a full field in Sunday’s $60,000 Blue Sparkler Stakes going 5 ½ furlongs.

“She has been doing really good,” said Eddie Broome, who is the breeder, owner and trainer of Brandy’s Girl. “She is going up against older horses in here, but she really loves the turf and I like the outside post (post 9) because she should have enough speed to get into a good position.”

The 3-year-old filly by Posse out of the West Acre mare Don’ Stop Dreamin is exiting a fifth place finish in the Miss Woodford Stakes going six furlongs on the main track.

In her lone start over the Monmouth turf course, Brandy’s Girl took the lead going into the far turn and never looked back as she took the Crank It Up Stakes on June 4 by 2 ½ lengths.

As a 2-year-old, Brandy’s Girl took the Juvenile Fillies Sprint Stakes at Gulfstream Park West going 6 ½ furlongs on the main track in gate-to-wire fashion by 4 ¾ lengths.

Paco Lopez, Monmouth Park’s leading rider, will get the mount aboard Brandy’s Girl Sunday and has ridden her the last two outings.

Along with Brandy’s Girl, four other stakes winners are in the field of 14, which includes two alternates and a main track only entrant, including last year’s winner Joya Real for Kathleen Demasi and the Joe Orseno trainee Cal Thirty Seven who took the Powder Break Stakes at Gulfstream Park around two turns on April 30.

Two other entrants are coming off wins in the their last start:  Nite Delight for Linda Rice and Forest Funds, conditioned by Monmouth Park’s leading trainer Jorge Navarro.

The Blue Sparkler is set as race 9 in Sunday’s 10-race card. Gates open at 11:30 a.m. with first post scheduled for 12:50 p.m.
