Barn Notes Haskell Contenders Continue to Train For Sunday

            With the Haskell Invitational just two days away, the competitors continue to make their final preparations for Sunday’s mile and an eighth event.




  • Nyquist- Reddam Racing LLC’s Kentucky Derby champion was out earlier than most this morning around 5:30 a.m. as he galloped once around the off track.




  • Exaggerator- Big Chief Racing LLC, Head of Plains Partners LLC and Rocker O Ranch LLC’s Preakness winner arrived Thursday afternoon and galloped this morning over the sloppy main track as the rain poured down at 7:30 a.m.




  • Gun Runner- Winchell Thoroughbreds LLC, Three Chimneys Farm and Belisu Stables’ son of Candy Ride went out and galloped around the main track in the designated time (7:30-7:45 a.m.) for Haskell runners this morning.




  • American Freedom- Gary and Mary West’s west coast shipper continued his work with about a mile and a quarter gallop according to assistant trainer Jimmy Barnes over the track at 7:30 a.m. as the rain continued throughout the session.




  • Awesome Slew- Live Oak Plantation’s colt was up early, along with Nyquist, to gallop a mile and a half over the track.




  • Sunny Ridge- Dennis Drazin’s 3-year-old son of Holy Bull galloped a mile and a half Friday according to trainer Jason Servis over the off main track.




In addition, Monmouth Park will be open to the public Saturday from 7:15-8:15 a.m. to watch Haskell contenders make their final preparations for Sunday’s race. The racing strip will be limited to horses entered in the Haskell between 7:30-7:45 a.m.


The Haskell’s scheduled post time is 5:47 p.m. and will be telecast live on NBC.

The Haskell is a Breeders’ Cup “Win & You’re In” event for the $6 million Breeders’ Cup Classic.


            Gates will open early on Haskell Day at 10 a.m. with first race scheduled for 12 noon.
