Leading trainer at the meet Jorge Navarro will have three entering the starting gate on Sunday for the $75,000 Mr. Prospector stakes, going six furlongs on the Monmouth main track.

Breaking from the rail will be Chublicious. The five-year-old gelding by Hey Chub out of the Arch mare Sassy Broad is coming off a length and a half score in the John J. Reilly Handicap on May 28 at Monmouth after sitting just off the early pace before taking the lead at the top of the stretch.

“The rail won’t be a problem for him,” said Navarro. “The speed will come from his outside so he will probably sit just behind in third or fourth.”

Chublicious has worked once since the victory in the John J. Reilly. The work came on June 17 where he went four furlongs in :47 2/5, the second fastest of  28 horses that went the distance that morning.

Antonio Gallardo will be back aboard looking for a repeat performance from the Reilly.

Starting from post position two will be Visionary Ruler. The six-year-old horse by Pollard’s Vision out of the Langfuhr mare Empress Gracie is also ran last in the John J. Reilly where he finished fourth behind stable mate Chublicious.

Visionary Ruler worked alongside Chublicious in his last work and went a fifth of a second faster, going the four furlongs in :47 1/5, the fastest work of the day at Monmouth.

“He didn’t run his best last race, but he should be ready to go this time,” said Navarro. “He will probably sit just off the lead in about second.”

Paco Lopez takes the mount for the second time in his career aboard Visionary Ruler. Both Visionary Ruler and Chublicious are owned by David Gruskos.

The last of Navarro’s horses, Shaft of Light, will break from post position three in the Mr. Prospector. The five-year-old gelding by Smart Strike out of the Silver Deputy mare Silver Adventure is coming in off back-to-back wins in front-running fashion in allowance optional claiming events.

“He’s been doing super,” said Navarro. “He will be going for the lead. I’m really happy with the way all three horses have been doing coming into the race.”

Shaft of Light’s latest bullet work came on June 23 when he went five furlongs in 1:00 1/5, the fastest of the nine horse that went five furlongs on the day.

Shaft of Light, owned by Monster Racing Stables, will be ridden by Jonathon Gonzales, who rode him to victory last time out.

Of the seven runners in this year’s Mr. Prospector, all but Only the Truth are, in some way, related to Mr. Prospector himself.

Morning line favorite Always Sunshine, conditioned by Edward Allard, is the only graded stakes winner in the field. He took the Grade 3 Maryland Sprint Handicap on May 21 at Pimlico. His latest outing came in the Grade 2 True North on June 10 at Belmont Park where he finished fifth by only a length and three-quarters.

The Mr. Prospector is set for race 10 on Sunday’s 11-race card. Gates open at 11:30 a.m., with first post set for 12:50 p.m.
