Prima Ventures LLC’s Sublime Twist took control right from the start and held off the late charge of Foileen to capture the $23,000 starter allowance feature at Monmouth Park on Friday by a nose.

With Samuel Camacho Jr. in the irons, Sublime Twist went the mile and a sixteenth over a fast main track in 1:46 flat and paid $15, $6.60 and $4.20.  Foileen, whose jockey lodged a disallowed claim of foul against the winner for interference in the stretch, completed the $487.20 exacta and returned $38.60 and $8.40.  It was another 5 ¾ lengths back to post-time favorite Five Cents, who paid $2.40 to show.

“It was a great race,” said winning trainer Timothy J. Kelly.  “I was a little concerned about the stretch run, it got crowded between the two of them, but the jockey did a great job getting him out there and getting him in a good position and the horse did the rest.”

A 5-year-old gelding by Pollard’s Vision from the Mt. Livermore mare Smash Hit, Sublime Twist has won two of his 23 outings.

Live racing continues at Monmouth Park on Saturday, June 14 – gates open 11:30 a.m., first post 12:50 p.m.
