Prima Ventures LLC’s Sublime Twist took control right from
the start and held off the late charge of Foileen to capture the $23,000
starter allowance feature at Monmouth Park on Friday by a nose.
Camacho Jr. in the irons, Sublime Twist went the mile and a sixteenth over a
fast main track in 1:46 flat and paid $15, $6.60 and $4.20. Foileen, whose jockey lodged a disallowed
claim of foul against the winner for interference in the stretch, completed the
$487.20 exacta and returned $38.60 and $8.40.
It was another 5 ¾ lengths back to post-time favorite Five Cents, who
paid $2.40 to show.
“It was a
great race,” said winning trainer Timothy J. Kelly. “I was a little concerned about the stretch
run, it got crowded between the two of them, but the jockey did a great job
getting him out there and getting him in a good position and the horse did the
5-year-old gelding by Pollard’s Vision from the Mt. Livermore
mare Smash Hit, Sublime Twist has won two of his 23 outings.
